Destra Business Services – 2019
When I first started working with Lance at DBS he was just starting to establish the elevator phone service aspect of telecom business. He needed a website that elevator owners in Southern California could easily find. The main purpose of the website is to gain new customers for his state of art copper-to-cellular gateway, Mobile Connect 2 and accompanying monthly phone service.
The requirements for the website for pretty simple, a contact form, an appointment form, a request a quote form and easy to access contact numbers. Easy to use web forms coupled with “click to call” phone numbers are easy enough and make customer interaction a breeze.
There were however a couple of challenges involved in the launch of this project, first and foremost was that there was no branding or color scheme for the website. Choosing colors and creating branding can eat up a lot time and that translates to a lot of budget. Luckily with the ease of the initial website requirements, I was able to dedicate extra time to branding.
Once I had the brief of what Lance was looking to get accomplished I set to work on his header logo design. Oftentimes the logo design sets the pace for the rest of the project and this proved no different. I quickly came up with something that worked for Lance, established our color scheme, and got us off to a great start both design-wise and time-wise.
Next up was creating copy and filling pages. While I prefer for website to copy to be created by the client, I took on the task of learning about the product and service and crafting the copy myself. After interviewing Lance about his product, competitors, and industry; and reading all I could about emergency phones and elevator communications code, I felt confident in what I supplied to Lance for approval. He made some expert revisions, and we were off to the races.
Using WordPress as a backend for this site made building out the content pretty easy. Once you have experience with the software, creating new pages and adjusting old pages can usually be left to the client.
Once the pages are populated I like to make sure everything looks good on my mobile browser. Since Google has moved to “mobile first” indexing this vital to the success of any web page on the site.
The last step for all the websites I build is getting them indexed on Google. I do this by submitting the website to Google Search Console. It is also important to index all new content as it is built, this is in important and often overlooked step.
For the past year I have been on contract with Destra Business Services as SEO (search engine optimizer). Aside from optimizing on-page SEO, this has required frequently building new content, adjusting existing content, researching keywords, optimizing page load times, and making sure that “we” keep “our” share of SERPs (search engine result pages). The image below shows the growth Destra Business Services has experienced over the past year.
It’s no secret that search engines like fresh and original content, but they also value content that is ADA compliant, loads quickly, and helps users solve a problem. Utilizing these techniques and regularlry publishing new content has seen Destra Business Services visibility in search go from less than 5% to regularly over 25%.
