5 Analytics Tips For New Users

Just a few Google Analytics Tips I have picked up during my 20 hours of Google Skillshop training and certification.

KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator, these will vary slightly depending on what you are trying to accomplish, the industry you are in and who you are targeting.

Planning is important when collecting data for analysis, what are you trying to understand? Are you collecting emails for a list? Do you want people to call your business? Are you selling an e-book? These are the types of questions you should have answered when you first built your wesite.
On to the tips.

  1. KNOW WHAT YOUR MEASURING AND WHY, ie.
you should focus on KPI’s, not just traffic.
  2. COMPARE WITH YOUR PAST PERFORMANCE,
last year, last month, even yesterday.
  3. MEASURE CONVERSIONS WITH GOALS, your
conversion rate is the most important KPI.
  4. USE SECONDARY DIMENSION TO COMPARE
    DATA, cross-reference your data with
    different data points.
  5. USE FILTERS TO EXCLUDE YOUR HOME AND
OFFICE IP’S, no need to track your office.
